Drinking from clean well-water..

More Judging today...

You can see the increased competitors from the table seating map!! So many many!! Feet was so tired tired...haha.. nearly cannot walk. LOL ^.^

The Judging was planned to be curtain judging (*meaning that all judges can only see are the hands of the models & nothing else, which would make it a more fair judging for all competitors). But coz of time constrains from the enormous number of competitors, it became floor judging instead...

More hard work, coz have got to walk up & down the rows...

Revealed!! What we Judges eats before giving the verdict...LOL.

Food is delivered to the Judge room as we cannot go out. The "sushi" look-alike is called Gimbab. It's not made of seafood ingredients, but very very tasty!!

In the Judges Room, we are not allowed to leave the room so that we do not know which competitor seats where. But hey...I duno anyone of them anyway! so no much difference for me this time round.. haha...

Me with Head Judge Ms Kim Mi Won and World Champion Seo Sangmi.

This is Hye Jing, she did my nails yesterday...

With other pretty Korean Judges... also Ms Fiona, the other International Judge other than me. She is also President of Hong Kong Nail Association.

The certificate of appreciation for my presence as the International Judge for this competition.

Actually, I am very honoured to participate in this competition; so the appreciation is mutual.. I mean, it's not the first time I am judging internationally; but to me, I think the coming together for all 5 Associations in Korea is a significant process for all Koreans. To involve a foreigner like me in their process towards a unity in the Korean Nail Industry is kind. I think cooperation of all Korean Nail Associations is also the wish of their government & everyone in the Korean nailist industry.

As promised, the good news on the nail service for charity... we raised more than USD$5000!! Yeah! \(^.^)/We are still continuing to raise donations.. as the $5K is still some way from the target.

Our hopeful target is to donate a "Deep Well", which cost about $18,000... it's a great start though, and donations are still pouring in.

Everyone did good!!
You can see everyone's tired but happy faces!!

About the "Deep Well" - A deep well fitted with a hand pump can provide up to 2,800 gallons of safe water a day to benefit as many as 300 people! In many communities, clean water lies hundreds of feet below layers of hard rock. Children have no choice but to walk long distances to find water that is often dirty and disease-ridden. When our drilling teams strike water, entire villages erupt in celebration because a clean water source can cut a community’s child mortality rate by as much as half.

Korea's 1st National Nail Compeition Opens!!

Day one of Judging; Floor Judgings all the way...

Check out the seating map, reminded me of the Japan License Examinations where there are thousands.
Each colored box seats 4 persons...

Here's me checking out my judging time slots.

Floor Judgings.... one after another.... hard working...

Today is also the start of the nail service charity drive for World Vision.
Click to World Vision website:
Customers need to make bookings and can choose from a menu of 7 types of nail designs ranging from 20,000Won to 37,000Won.

Of course everyone is encouraged to give more, all service money collected goes to World Vision.

I contributed to the pot too!!

There was an empty slot before closing, thus did a set of design sculpture!

Usually, I dun allow anyone to touch my nails... coz too picky...haha.. But for charity, it doesn't really matter if it's nice or ugly.. I dun really care or picky on how it looks... everything is for charity! ^.^

It's an experience that everyone actually worked so hard to do nails to raise money to make a difference to the kids World Vision takes care of...

I mean every gal could have spend their weekend shopping or working in their salons. Earning money for their own pockets..

I see everyone rushing up and down looking for nail polish bottles, using their strength filing hard at those nail extensions without complaining..

I must admit, I'm sort of very touched... I guess, it's coz they are not getting any monetary return...

Maybe I'm too used to seeing so many in the industry aiming at fame, power & money, more power and money & admiration for their nail skills or "achievements"... it's touching to do nails for no returns except the fact of knowing that it can change a kid's future thru this action.. quite cool hur? You'll need to be doing this action to feel what I felt..haha.

I am wondering if such projects would work in Singapore? I seriously duno... LOL
Any the how, tomorrow is another long day and everyone's service appointments are booked full...

Would share how much we managed to raised..

More judging tomorrow!! ^.^

Korea National Nail Competition Judging & NailArt Gallery

It had been a while since my last post. We were so busy at the academy for the past months. Just completing our show at Bugis Junction, we are preparing for the "Big Bang" end of this month.

I'm presently in Korea now... Invited as the International Judge for Korea's first National Nail Competition!!
I am so happy for Korean. All associations are collaborating together to organized this mega huge competition. There are like thousands of participants...

Only two asians are invited as international judges to this event though. Fiona from Hong Kong Nail Association and myself. The rest of the international judges team are namely, Danny Haile, Trang Nguyen & Carla Collier. It would mean that I'll have people who speaks English to talk with. ^.=

The rest of the Judges are Korean who represents each nail association involved in the event. Thus, it's so exciting to be part of this pivoting point of Korea's Nail Industry.
Besides the Nail Competition, I'm also here for a meaningful event...

Our 2009 Nail Art Book Gallery Charity Event. This year's Nail Art Gallery is done in collaboration with World Vision . It makes it more special as we would be donating the money that we raised for this event to World Vision towards their goal in "Building a better world for children".

For those who have no idea what World Vision is about, perhaps you would have remember some stars like kit chan, Ah-Mei, etc. visiting their sponsored child in countries like Africa, etc.

Or the "30hour Famine".. It's a fasting activity aimed to raise awareness of world hunger through real-experience of being hungry.

READ A-MEI’S BLOG -->A-Mei, the newly appointed 30 HOUR FAMINE Ambassador for World Vision Singapore and Malaysia, travelled to India recently to meet the children and their families in a move to better understand their struggles surrounding the food insecurity and HIV/AIDS issues.
Under the unforgiving 40 degrees Celsius heat, A-Mei weaved through the confusing maze of slums and communities and saw first-hand, the work that World Vision is doing and the impact it has brought to the children and their communities.

Besides the Nail Art Gallery, we would also be compiling all the Nail Art Photos into a book, which would be up for sales in November 2009.

Tomorrow, we would be providing nail services at discounted rates; all money collected goes to World Vision too.

It makes it more meaningful when the work that I do can create change in the world. That doing a simple thing like nails, would come to this day where our skills can make a difference. It is something to just sell a nail book, which everyone seems to be able to do nowadays; but another thing to be able to raise donations with it.

My experience with World Vision started during my school days, I sponsored 2 kids from their "Sponsor a Child" program.
"As a child sponsor, you are connected with one special child who will know your name, write to you and feel your tender love and prayers. Your child sponsorship monthly pledge of $30 will provide a child with things such as: Clean Water, Nutritious Food, Health Care, Educational Opportunities, Spiritual Nurture."

Of course seeing your own work displayed and admired is also a fulfilling experience. We should do a Nail Art Gallery like this in Singapore or Malaysia soon hur?

It'll be fun!! ^.^

More photos tomorrow!!
